Colon and Rectal Cancer Prevention

Peer Review Status: Internally Reviewed
First Published: March 2004
Last Revised: March 2004

Doctors can’t always explain why one person gets cancer and another does not. Scientists have studied general patterns of cancer to learn what things around us and what things we do in our lives may increase our chance of developing cancer. Colorectal cancer can sometimes be associated with known risk factors. We can change many of the risk factors. Some risk factors, such as heredity, cannot be changed. The National Cancer Institute has several recommendations.

There are other research findings on prevention of colon and rectal cancer.
