The Neuropsychology test is a series of tests that evaluate your intellectual functioning, memory, speech and language, perception, planning, judgement, decision-making, and personality. The results of these tests help your doctor make an accurate diagnosis.
What is it?
- a series of tests that evaluate your intellectual functioning, memory, speech and language, planning, judgement, decision-making and personality
- these tests typically include:
- the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (revised)
- the Multilingual Aphasia Examination
- the Wechsler Memory Scale
- the Benton Visual Retentions Test
- the Benton Orientation Battery
- the results of these tests help your doctor make an accurate diagnosis
How long does it take?
Why are these tests performed?
- they aid in the diagnosis of neurological disease
- they aid in the selection of appropriate rehabilitation procedures
Does it hurt?
- you should experience no pain or discomfort

What should you do to prepare for the tests?
- eat normal meals
- continue taking prescribed medications unless your doctor gives you other instructions
- be sure to get a full night's sleep before the tests
How are the tests performed?
- a psychologist and technician will administer the tests and provide you with all instructions. Feel free to ask questions at any time.
Following the tests
- you may return to your hospital room, or go home, unless your doctor gives you other instructions
