A word on antibiotics: The overuse of antibiotics has led to a problem with microbial resistance. Be judicious in your use of antibiotics. Reserve newer agents (linezolid for gram-positive organisms and quinupristin-dalfopristin) for cases in which they are the only alternative. Gram stain results are interpreted in Table 10-1.
