The percentage of children characterized as obese has risen dramatically in the past decade. Dr. Michael Tansey is working with his colleagues in pediatrics to alert health care providers to the growth of this threat and the long-term implications for this health risk among the nation's younger generations.
Dr. Tansey's Virtual Hospital textbook, Childhood Obesity is written with health-care providers in mind yet offers helpful resources for families as well. As a pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Tansey's clinical interests include insulin pump therapy in diabetes and intensive diabetes therapies and his research interests include insulin sensitivity, genetics of obesity, and hypoglycemia in diabetes.
Dr. Tansey is an assistant professor in the endocrinology division of the Department of Pediatrics. He received his medical degree from Loyola University and completed his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
