Pulmonary Sling

Clinical Presentation:
Has symptoms of obstructive pulmonary disease due to airway compression, while other vascular rings have symptoms of stridor and dysphagia.

Etiology/Pathophysiology:
The left pulmonary artery arises from the right pulmonary artery with the aberrant right pulmonary artery coursing back to the left lung behind the trachea and in front of the esophagus causing indentation of the post wall of the trachea and the anterior wall of the esophagus. The aberrant artery impinges on the trachea and the left and right mainstem bronchi.

Pathology:
Not applicable

Imaging Findings:
Lateral esophagram shows an anterior indentation on the esophagus.
