Etiology/Pathophysiology:
The mirror image of situs solitus. The anatomic left atrium is on the
right and the anatomic right atrium is on the left. Most
cardiovisceral malpositions are concordant - the venous atrium,
inferior vena cava and major lobe of the liver are on one side of the
body, and the arterial atrium, descending aorta and stomach are on
the opposite site. It occurs in 0.01% of the population, and has a
3-5% incidence of associated congenital heart disease, which is
greater than the incidence of congenital heart disease in patients
with situs solitus.
