Unicameral Bone Cyst (UBC) (Simple Bone Cyst)

Clinical Presentation:
Fifty percent present with a pathologic fracture. Most occur in childhood. Usually are asymptomatic and are large at diagnosis.

Etiology/Pathophysiology:
Etiology is unknown. Is a tumor like lesion that consists of a fluid filled intramedullary cavity lined by connective tissue. The proximal humeral metaphysis is the most common site, with 80% being in the humerus or proximal femur. Treated via curettage and bone packing with good results, steroid injections are also used for treatment.

Pathology:
Not applicable

Imaging Findings:
Looks like an expansile cystic lesion surrounded by a thin cortex. Grows down into the diaphysis as the bone elongates.
